Red snapper are hard to find close to the beach. Ive never caught one inside of 10 miles. What port where you out of?
That's bad news..... I had hope for crossing it off my kayak bucket list with a trip to Ponce Inlet. There was a lost nice one taken by kayak last year off Dania Beach.

It can be done. Brian Nelli takes a trip to the Panhandle every year and does exactly that. I think he might even do charters through there.

Frequently accomplished in Navarre Beach, Pensacola. Scales n Tails is the local kayak charterer in that neck of the woods. Knowledge of the local structures is key for this fishery. Navarre is consider best because it is farthest from the inlets -- most boat anglers fish 10 miles out instead of 10 miles along the beach, thus it has less fishing pressure. I would prefer to find a similar area Nth of Ponce ? A 4 hour drive to Ponce is more attractive than a 9 hour drive to Navarre from Fort Lauderdale.
Dorsal shape makes me think it might be a mutton, the spot can fade on bigger fish and fish that have been on ice. Also Boca certainly more likely to be a Mutton.

Good for Muttons, Mangroves and Yellowtail, but Red Snapper are rare in Boca
