1st ever fish from a kayak is a 100lb tarpon

Hi guys, been away from the forum for quite some time. I hope you all are well and bending some rods in my absence. I had a buddy tell me he wanted to try kayak fishing for the first time recently. He's an avid fisherman, but never caught a fish off of a kayak. So being the **** that I am, I decided I'd put him on some giant tarpon. To my surprise, he was game for it. We went to my favorite spot off Miami Beach and within minutes of deploying baits he was hooked up to a 100# fish. I was there with a drift sock to slow down the fish, making it about a 30 minute fight before properly releasing it. I think it's needless to say that he's now hooked... Tight lines.

Great to see Team Googan in action a few blocks from where I live - been a fan since your 2013 Spidey/Yoyo videos.

Only started getting my inshore game going last month myself -- made it out tossing a hogleg off the beach a bit further north and lost a 4 foot tarpon last week. Seeing them come right up and roll in 3 feet of water has been incredible.

That's awesome man. He will never be the same after that experience. I see tarpon out here off Dania and Hollywood in the early morning, but I am heading offshore and not awake enough to have my arms yanked off. On my way in from offshore they follow my kayak into the beach like puppy dogs, but they seem more wary once the sun is up. Tried to feed them live pilchards and gogs, but they won't touch it.

Are you just drifting or slow trolling a live mullet or threadfins?

Awesome catch, congratulations to your friend! :applause Nice guiding on your part. :cool He is a brave guy, I've seen too many big sharks to leave my feet in the water like that anymore, especially with a struggling fish.
