TOUGH DAY MAHI FISHING PE 5/11

After fishing a tournament in the keys last Saturday
in 4 to 7 ft seas was looking for a nice calm day.It
was flat scatterd weed with some patches we went
all the way to the 34 line. After talking to a friend
that was on the 19 line and had found nothing we
started trolling back in.Finally at the 50 line 3 peanuts
come in the spread could not even hook up on the
small bubblers.Put 1 5 lb skippy in the box and called
it a day.Heard of 1 boat finding a piece of bamboo and
he got 6 mahi.Kingfish bite was on. Will be out Saturday.

Don't feel bad. We went out yesterday after also spending last weekend in 5 to 7 foot seas. From start to finish we covered 135 miles. we found a huge livewell floating about 35 miles with some nice triple tail and jacks (no mahi). Trolled some nice weed lines (no mahi).
Found some nice birds (no mahi).
Came back in to the wrecks and got a few nice bites on the Bottom but nothing came up. Got a 20 pound black fin tuna to the Boat until the hammer head showed up. Ran back out to 400' for some birds and saw a school of 5-10 pound mahi going south at about 20mph!! Managed to get one to the Boat. So at the end we covered 135 miles fished from 6 AM to 6 PM for one small mine. Lol beautiful slow day.

Thanks to both for the report. We are teaching grandson how to play hooky from VPK later this afternoon and this helps us plan accordingly

pretty sure we heard ya on the radio too. they were not red hot
we caught last fish at about 2:30.
We fished that rip/weedline for probably 1.5 hrs going back and forth and picking at them.
    Persistence paid off
