Visited the in-laws this weekend up in Lady Lake. So I brought the kayak up early Friday to start on the weekend early. Arrived about 10:30am and went directly to Lake Okahumpka. Well it was a disappointment to say the least. Wind was howling at a constant 20 mph with gusts even higher and the lake was down a good 2-3 feet. Well it was a muddy mess and after slogging thru it for over an hour I called it quits. Me and the boat were a muddy mess!! :mad
The next day I met up with a good friend Darin who moved up that way about a year ago. We met up at Lake Deaton at 0630 hrs. The difference was like night and day. Hardly any wind and a much deeper clear lake. Fished hard till about 3:30pm. Caught 10 fish (nothing picture worthy) from 10" to 14". Lost a few more. Caught one early punching the lily pads with a No Limits plastic craw. The rest of the fish were caught with a Zoom U-Tail Speed Worm. They were chasing that thing like it was going out of style. Sunday was a sleep in day then headed home.
I'll be looking forward to fishing Deaton and other lakes up that way next time we visit.
