Pro Sports in Orlando

How the heck is it that we have a pro soccer team and a new stadium but no pro MLB or NFL team here in Orlando?

I need to put a group together and bring an MLB team to the new Champion Stadium.

Who wants in? Anyone with any experience, and a lot of money, that would like to work with me?

The average price of a mlb team is $1.3 B. The Yankees are the most valuable for the 19th yr in a row at $3.4 B. I think I'll have to pass. Back in the 70's - 80's our mayor was one of the team owners os the Boston Red Soxs.

The money spent by municipalities to build a stadium is a horrible investment. Las Vegas public contribution to build a new football stadium for a billionaire is $750M.

Orlando needs to consider itself lucky or smart.

P.S. Orlando does not need more congested highways.

I think Polar is already an undercover mod.

Orlando has already demonstrated it doesn't care about pro sports. Just look at this forum....no one even cares about the 2 baseball teams already in the state.
If your thinking you can get the Rays...that's just dumb, makes no sense.
    Did the Magic leave already?

I suggest your support the local high school and Central Florida Div. 1 baseball. They are 20-6 and about halfway through the season.

You can hire harbison to do your advertising. He's cheap. All he'll want is a luxury box, free food, parking, limo ride, and a few other perks. :grin

Honestly, we have a lot more fun going to the River Rats games in Sanford.

The Rays and the Marlins struggle to find a fan base because no one is from here a 3rd team in Florida I don't think will work.

We don't need an NFL team, Jacksonville and Tampa are driving distance. we have lots of teams in the area that have spring training for MLB so i don't see much of a need for that either. Soccer is something i've gone too, but i prefer the ECHL hockey games at the Amway center we have a lot of fun at those and it's usually less than $20.00 a person.

I doubt that the financial demographics of the greater orlando area could or would be able to support any additional pro teams. I also hope they do not even try to bring in anymore, the money spent by, most likely tax dollars is just tooooo much to justify any major sports teams. As said above. Now if Disney and Universal made a deal to build what was needed for a sports team and finance every thing from roads to stadiums might be a GO

Well, not really. The city added a small percent on the tax that hotel guests pay

i think they're in the playoffs now, i really don't keep much track of the season. I just look for weekends we feel like going. Last time we sat behind the goalie, 12 rows up for $50 for the 3 of us. Hockey is one game that is so much better live than on TV, i can't watch it on TV but if i'm there, it's very entertaining. And you can shoot over to the Hairy Buffalo for a pint after. Or before.

This. In S. Florida sometimes half of the fans at the professional games are rooting for the other team. we were invaded from the north and south. When international soccer games are played they are packed with folks rooting for their home countries, even if they are playing the USA. So much for the melting pot. Also we have year round outdoor activities that many northern states do not have. I love the Dolphins, Heat, Canes, Panthers and the players (not owners) on the Marlins but I would still prefer to fish over going to a game.
