Offshore Report

Fishing has been pretty good these last few weeks out to the 20 fathom boundary. Quality red grouper up to 20lbs, porgies to 11lbs, mangroves to 7lbs, even landed a carbo to 20lbs. Hopefully this weather pattern continues and leads into my favorite time of the year, summer.

Tight Lines, until next report.

What is a carbo? Is it slang for the black grouper or mutton?

    Nice fish, by the way!!!

Carbo is a nickname for black grouper. Smaller ones I call carboritas. Porgy' will be called hubcaps.

CARBO IS A CROSS BETWEEN A BLACK GROUPER AND A GOLIATH GROUPER. IT HAS SPOTS MIXED IN WITH THE MARBLING OF A BLACK. REAL GOOD LOOKING FISH. WHEN THEY GET ABOUT 50# PLUS THEY LOSE THE MARBLING CHARACTERISTICS AND YOU GET MOSTLY JUST THE YELLOWISH RED ORANGE SPOTS. SORRY FOR YELLING LOL:wink

Alright, my bad. I miss read it and thought the post was for "cubera" which is a type of snapper. I will happily take my lashings from the forum.

Scott, you misread but don't listen to jayanshaw. What he said is absolutely false.

A Carbo, or Carborita, is nothing more than a nickname for a black grouper.
