Been trying to find out how to rig a breakaway sinker. Lots of research with little results. I saw one article that said to put a loop in a egg sinker and then shove a rubber band in it. Anyone have a better way?
I've used the egg sinker and rubber band trick for year and it works great for me. FYI, If you use an egg sinker that is too heavy it will slide down the line.
Should a young squire want to toss a small bait...like a live minnow 50 yards onto a flat with no weight..
You could use a sugar cube with a small hole drilled in the middle...push a loop through it...then take a 16 penny nail and put it through the loop and pull the line tight....if you have to cast farther...use another nail.

What's the bait, tackle, how deep do you want the bait, and where are you fishing?

When the cube melts all the weight is gone....:)
