MLB Spring Training

Anyone else catching any of the spring training games?

We went to see Houston play Atlanta at the ESPN wide world of sports complex on Sunday and it was a great game

We hung around after the game for a few minutes and ended up getting Freddie Freeman's baseball bat that he used in the game, and cracked. He went two for two with one RBI. My 12-year-old thought he won the lottery

I was die hard Atlanta fan in the 90's. My granddaddy was a huge fan of the Braves as well and enjoyed watching games all season long with him when TBS broadcasted the games. Even the wife was excited when they went "from worst to first" Good times. Remember boys in school during the 60's with a am radio with a earpiece when the world series were played during week days?

Now I just keep up with who's doing what and just watch the playoffs.

You must be as old as me :grin. That would be awesome. I said before my brother met Whitey Ford in the 80's at a local bar. He would tell him about drunk Micky Mantle stories. LOL Good times.

Almost went to the Phillies v Ray's game. Instead, had to deal with a major water leak from the GC worker

We have four teams here now. Only been to a Cardinals game years ago.

Grandfather to me to Yankees preseason in Lauderdale many moons ago. Getting autographs was easy back then.

Haven't been to one in over 20 years but love going to the minor league games here. Spring Training means traffic jams these days but it was fun going as a teen.

Don't watch baseball. Used to as a kid, but it became all about the money. Lost interested in the NBA for the same reason. Pro football is going that way too.

Baseball is kind of boring to watch as well. Like watching golf on T.V.

20 years ago you could show up at a spring training game and pick your seat. it was great. Slowly it started to get harder and harder to get tickets to the teams you wanted to see. The stadiums got bigger and now they sell out. It's not the same.

I like to play golf, have even been to a few tournaments (spectator), but it is boring to watch on T.V.

Yup, we used to enjoy going when we lived over on the Gulf side, had a neighbor who was trying to make it in the bigs and he and his wife used to get us seats for the Phillies all the time. Now I prefer minor league ball, the Daytona Tortugas are fun to watch and it's cheap to go to a game.

I was looking at tickets to a Yankees game on Sunday and there were some that were over $300.00. For a spring training game. Thats ridiculous

We used to sit in the bleachers for Cubs games at Wrigley, $3 a ticket back in the early 80's... now it's $36 and almost impossible to get. They've made it so a family can't afford to go sit in the sunshine and afford a game.

    Exactly. Very sad

The box office at Disney was selling general admission for $50 per person. It's no wonder the place was empty.

Crazy that your average family can't go to a game

  • Look at all the empty seats in the stands and all of the grass.

Guess when every single guy playing makes league minimum of $535,000 they have to charge a ton for the seats... but when we all stop going they may have to rethink that strategy.

Daytona Tortugas, $6-$14 a game, freebies, cheap dogs and beer... much mo bettah.

Caught a mets game the other day, we were given tickets as a gift...very surprised at cost of seats to spring training, especially with starters only playing an inning or two right now. It was great to be watching ball in 85 degree weather in February, but I'd rather save my money for September games.

We went to Stetson's opening day and I took a mix of kids from three of my travel ball divisions and it was $6.00 per kid. Great game, kids had a great time and some got Chipper Jones autograph

That's the way it should be. I don't begrudge a ballplayer making good money in their short career, but there has to be some give from the owners so folks can still go and enjoy a game. I'm not really a sports person, but I enjoy the people watching aspect of going to a game; and being from the cold north it's always the first sign of spring.

Growing up my dad took us to numerous Oriole spring games in Miami, and I'm still a big O's fan today.

Though I don't really have the time or patience to sit through baseball games anymore.

Hockey is fun to watch. I got invited to the all star game in Fort Lauderdale one year. Friend at Coke was a fan and got tickets. It was a blast to watch.

Probably because of the number of players from Rookie ball to the Show. Top money in baseball is sickening.

They play 160 games compared to the 80 or so in the NBA and NHL and 16 of NFL. The MLB season is grueling. Also the top players get paid for a reason. It makes good business sense
