The idea of creating a flowway, where water is sent south instead of east and west isn't new. The Corp called for it in "Plan 6" and CERP called for it via Component G. We need to send water south, and via a federal mandate, it must be clean. No more than 10 PPB.

This isn't a new problem nor a novel solution, just one that is long overdue if you care about our estuaries east west and south of Lake O.

Blair, I understand all of that. I don't disagree with any of it. But as you said, the water, by federal mandate, must be clean. Building a storage area, with no way, or even a plan, of how to clean the water in it before sending it anywhere, is not going to help. As I already posted, I see noting in Negron's plan to clean up the water. If we cant do that, all we have done is create a $2.4 million pond full of nasty water that can't be sent anywhere. In between times, the current plans continue to sit and wait to be started/restarted. And the root cause of the problem, the water coming into the Lake from the north, continues unabated. And, with the statement from the Corp this week, I would say that the chance of the Feds paying half is pretty much zero, anyway. If that turns out to be the case, then all we have is another plan doing nothing. That's the reason we need to continue with the CERP and other projects before we start something new. As it is, even if the land was purchased tomorrow, it would be years before a single shovel of dirt was turned. The halted projects could be restarted much quicker. Most of us that get assaulted and abused on here because we won't jump on the Bull Sugar bandwagon care as much about our water conditions as any of the supporters. We just think it needs to be handled in a different way. I'm 58 years old. I spent the majority of my life in SE FL. Pretty much, if there's a place to fish there, I've been there. I've seen all the issues first hand. And now what I see is just another political group beating their own drum, with out any regard for folks that could easily be allies, just because they won't jump on the BS bandwagon. Too bad, because despite all the noise that has been made, ain't a dang thing changed. The Corp still does exactly what they want to, and for the most part, exactly what their main purpose is, and that's to keep water out of folks homes.

But the resivors are part of CERP. They were approved by Congress in 1999. They're Component G of CERP.

I agree, let's get it done. With an $82b dollar annual state budget why are we arguing about chump change....when it comes to fixing our water.

Ideally the additional land allowed you to use already owned land to clean and filter the water, but if it can be done with deeper reservoirs and still meet fed standards it's a good start. With adding some treatment from A-1 and some additional storage there, getting us to 120 billion gallons (360,000 ac/ft) we'd be definitely going in the right direction.

Best part is we don't take the money away from ongoing or required future projects.

There was no way anyone with a lick of sense was going forward with a new purchase of 60,000 acres. I tried to articulate that fact.

Simply put the new 60,000 acres was dream of an uniformed politician backed by uninformed activists and using bad science to say it was the way to go.

Trust me Blair, we didn't just start this thing to save the Everglades and Lake "O". Some of us have been working on it most of our lives! I really upsets us who have been here for the long haul to be second guessed by newcomers with an agenda.

Oh and we both will be dead and gone before you ever see 360,000 acre feet of storage not counting Lake O!

So now Joe takes credit for the plan going back to what it was! So this plan now simply put, is the exact plan I proposed, Build the old reservoir first!

There just isn't enough money out there to get done what everyone wants done! So it sat there for 20 years and the NGO's fought to stop it in 2008!

Think about the irony, The NGO environmental groups stopped the reservoir that has the best chance of attenuating flows from Lake Okeechobee and actually sends the water South!

I'm just wondering how much of the initial plan of 60000 acres was political posturing, or pressure or as you call it BS. Lol. Might have been the plan all along. (A-1 A-2), or at least to fall back on. But when you start there, going down means failure.
On a side note. Don't think it's a good idea for Florida to fold their hand, and remove the option to buy all 156000 acres just yet.
Seems very foolish to me.

Just more delays caused by the same group that has been causing them since day one. They declare themselves as advocates for the resource when in reality there has been nothing positive to come out of these volleys in over a decade from most that have just shown up in the last 8-10 months.

There is an existing plan that has been properly vetted and has a federal partner in achieving the goals. Currently . . this is just bad government at its worst. Politicians should NOT be in the business of developing restoration plans. This is going to real **** show if this thing continues only to cause more delays than we have seen. This bill has the potential to set back the restoration and activation of projects another decade.

A decade???????
Governor Chiles got this thing going in 1994 after the settlement of the Miccosukee law suit. 27 years.
ok 23 years....long time.
