The best bologna

cadmancadman Posts: 43,575 AG
Not counting a nice German bologna from the deli, just store brands in the lunch meat case.

I woke up today wanting a bologna sandwich. Bought some Gwaltney from Publix since it was cheap. A very good bologna at a good price. I usually get Oscar Mayer Beef bologna, but this was as good. Put some sharp cheddar and mayo with it for my sandwich.

Which brand do you prefer. I know it is bad for me, that ain't the discussion.

When i was a kid i loved fried bologna sandwiches. Might have to try one it's been 40-50 yrs. I like just about any brand as long as it's not chicken meat. That's some nasty stuff.

For that once a year baloney sandwich craving, I usually go with oscar mayer beef, but I think I might just try some boars head at Publix, have them slice me a few thick pieces and make my white bread/mayo/baloney delight.

I haven't bought any in so long I don't know what's available. Gonna have to get some now though.
But, my mother would put bologna in the oven and bake it until it "rolled" up into a sort of cup.
Then she would fill up the cup with mashed potatoes and top with cheddar cheese and put back in the oven
    to melt the cheese. Yum.
That would be our supper along with green peas.

Add some bread and butter pickles to that.

Try peanut butter, mayo and bologna one time, you will thank me. Bologna always requires white bread.

When I was a kid a family friend of my parents made us a bologna sandwich. White bread, deli mustard, and a big slab of tomato and onion. It was so good we named it after him. The Johnny Crowe Special. Been eating them that way ever since.

On a side note, I've been watching videos of smoking a 5 lb hunk of high quality bologna. That will be next on my smoker. Never thought much of it till I watched the videos from the professional YouTube channels. Now I can't wait.

So is Oscar Meyer unless you get Beef bologna.

Gwaltney makes regular bologna, chicken Bologna, and beef Bologna. I bought the regular which is pork, chicken and beef.

Oscar Meyer, mustard, Helman's and tomato. Kettle chips and pickle of your choice.

Never bought it before, but the all meat was pretty good. You may be thinking of their chicken bologna, which I have never tried.

Naaa, I've had the beef also. I can remember my GM buying that (price point) many years ago. There used to be a member here who loved bologna and got a job working at Lykes. That was the end of his love for bologna.
