Bob and Gary came out for a four hour trip, the pelagics didn't want to play but the bottom bite was pretty good for triggers and porgys. The snappers seemed to have taken a road trip !
Why aren't you guys banging the vermillions? Every trip in the last two months, we have stopped in 150 to 250 looked for the blobs of fish on the sounder and limited out on vermillions.
Yesterday left house at 12:30, and returned before 3 with my 5 vermillions and a 17" mutton snapper. Pretty easy fishing, they aren't gear shy, and bite a few at a time on a chicken rig.
'
Heck, I don't have to go more than a mile from Boca Inlet to get my limit no matter how many people on the boat.

We don't have them like that up here, just an occasional one.
Nice catch! I've heard Triggers are a PIA to clean, is that true?
No, just stick the knife point in the soft spot right behind the pectoral fin to get started, then work from inside to out. If you are in the area, stop by Sailfish and I can show you.

Good info, head's up, New Regs!
IE any Muttons caught inside State waters must be 18" (just as an FYI)
Mutton
State: 18" TL
Federal: 16" TL
State: 5 per person within the 10 snapper aggregate bag limit
Federal: Up to 10 per person within the 10 snapper aggregate bag limit

May be a dumb question but can somebody enlighten me on the state and fed regs? If I catch a mutton 7 miles offshore say 16" in federal waters but come back to shore with the catch in my cooler will FWC bust me or will they take my word for it (funny right)? I'm sure it's been discussed many times but I'm sure a forum member can help me out.
Wouldn't recommend fishing fed and state waters in same day. Not worth the risk. Solely for state vs federal differentiating species. If you and a friend go out 6 miles, boat your federal limit of 4 Cobia (2 per person), then get caught fishing 2 miles out for snapper in state waters, more likely than not you will be in trouble.
I believe if you catch fish in Federal waters you may traverse through State waters although you cannot stop within State waters. Similar to fishing Bahamian waters and coming back to the U.S.

They are easy once you know how!
Similar to a dolphin, slice the skin first except this time slice the skin from the inside with the blade pointed 'up' and away from the body of the fish. If you start sawing at the skin from the outside, you're 180 degrees wrong!
Once the skin is sliced just below the surface, pull the skin/meat back and slice it off the carcass as you would a big dolphin. Lay the fillet and meat on the table and then skin it.......... or, leave the skin on if you'd like to slap that on the grill!
Gently shave off the strings of tiny bloodlines near the tail. Then have fun with many great recipes to fry, grill, broil and boil the nice, white meat!
Go to Youtube and look at several easy ways to clean them. Two of my Boca Fire Rescue fishing buddies just love eating Trigs in da Bahamas! :hail

Correct, if you fish in Federal, then stop in state, all fish on board must meet state regs. It gets confusing
