Good all around Fly Rod/reel weight

Im looking to get into fly fishing, hopefully by this summer ill have a bit saved up to by a decent rod/reel combo to start with from cabelas. Im just looking for something to catch some snook, reds and trout on to start. Whats weight rod should I be looking for? Ive seen 8, 10, 12 and seriously dont know the difference between them, was hopeing for some help.

8 wt is pretty standard for those fish. It'll be a little light for the biggest fish, but just right for most.

And check out the deals on reelflyrod.com, everything from 100 to 2000$ setups. I started with one of their 8 wt cheapies, a reddington, 5 years ago and it has not broken yet. I still keep it as a spare.

8wt, light enough to enjoy casting but stout enough to handle fish to 20lbs, as long as you're not trying to pull them out of mangroves or dock pilings.

8 maybe a 9 if you go offshore much.

I agree on the 8wt as being a good all around inshore rod - But, don't just order one from Cabela's and buy based on price. Go to your local fly shop, take a casting class or find out when they have their next intro/seminar (all good shops do) and learn the basics - Then try out different rods. Your shop should have a good selection and should be happy to let you try a few out for feel. Once you've tried a few you'll have a better idea what feels right for your (developing) style and then you can start to choose from there. What feels right to me may not be right for you and vice versa. I'd never buy a decent rod without casting one first.

Hit your local shop and ask about a good 8wt combo. Focus on rod and line primarily...you can start with a cheaper reel and upgrade down the road.

8, or of it's frequently windy where you like to fish, maybe a 9. I agree with above, you can get a nice TFO for not much more than a Cabela's and they are solid rods.
