It amazes me people don't have a checking account. How do you pay bills to the average person doing work for you or any other bill??? Not all bills are paid with credit card.
I have a checking account but have not written a check in years. Only bill I pay via check is my townhouse HOA and my bank cuts and mails it monthly for me. All other bills and such paid online, even property tax.
The online money has to come from somewhere at some point right? And not everyone allows for credit card payment so there has to be some kind of account. And where would the cc payment come from? Not arguing sincerely asking. Cash is king too but would be hard to do everything that way I would think
IMHO for any bill that can be paid for goods or services with a credit card, that is the smart way, even more so if it is the first purchase you have made from the provider in question.
You get a grace period to pay and incur no interest, but more importantly almost every credit card company will let you dispute the charges within a certain time frame if the goods or services are not correct. That at the least gives me bargaining power to get it made right by the provider.
If I write them a check or money order, as soon as it clears then I no longer have bargaining power and am at the mercy of the provider to do the right thing.
I don't write very many checks, and when I do it is almost always because I have a known track record of getting what I paid for with the business or person in question.
I think this is pretty common financial advice nowadays. YMMV:shrug

Who are you talking about? Do know people that don't have a checking account?

Glad you asked Jr.Yes!
How bout a housekeeper, lawn man, painter, handyman, pool maintenance, loans that don't let you pay any other way unless you have an account with them. My business take cash, credit, or checks. But a lot of people don't operate that way. For those you need a checking account. How about rental property. Who takes anything but checks or cash for that? It is endless. Maybe someday, but today you need a check for those occasions. Unless you have such a life none of those things would come up.

Maybe if we tell people that the brain is an App, they will start using it.

I thought he meant who writes checks. You could still pay all your bills in person though. I use to.

Who doesn't specify in the lease or rental agreement what the acceptable forms of payment will be for their "rental properties"???
Who rents "vacation rentals" and doesn't expect most people will want to make reservations and payment with a credit card???
I suspect that a lot of people put this years "vacation budget" on plastic, and are planning and hoping to work enough overtime this year to pay it off, or pay it once their tax refund check comes in.
Estimates from the 2015 survey indicate that 7.0 percent of households in the United States were unbanked in 2015. This proportion represents approximately 9.0 million households. An additional 19.9 percent of U.S. households (24.5 million) were underbanked, meaning that the household had a checking or savings account but also obtained financial products and services outside of the banking system.

You never shop at Publix? You'd be amazed at the idiots in line to buy money orders. I have no idea why retail grocers do this. It takes 10 minutes to do a transaction that makes them 50 cents, while pissing off customers trying to get a quick checkout at customer service. :banghead

I'm pretty sure the Publix in my hood sells very few money orders. :grin

Publix is likely sitting on $500,000 of someone else's money for a couple of days is why.
I don't use banks, world banks are dominated by the Rothschild family, Jews control Wall Street, and that Jews control the U.S. Federal Reserve System. (sarcasm for all you conspiracy theorists)

Yes you are correct. Those are the people you need to pay by check. So how do you do it without a checking account? That's my point.
Personally, I would prefer my rental property tenants send me a check. Some can't manage to do that.

Menzies lives in the hood where there are two close Publixes. You may want to chat with him. :grin
Actually just went to Wal-Mart yesterday to buy a money order for $15. Cost me 70 cents.
It was to pay for the Bahamian pooch import fee! So worth the 70 cents!
