Assuming that you are not motorized, less than 7 meters, and under human power, you need to have ready at hand an electric torch(flash light) or lighted lantern showing a white light which shall be exhibited in sufficient time to prevent collision.

John gave you what you MUST have.
When I night fish from my yak, I have a fixed elevated white light, visible from 360 degrees a very bright handheld flashlight, and a headlamp.
In the Jupiter area, large boats going fast in the dark are too common to just go out yakking with the minimum lighting required.

I'm not brave enough to fish at night. Between boaters and the man in the gray suit, the only fishing in the dark I do is the hour before dawn for bait. You've got some good guidance from the posts above though.

I often carry the same...A high lumen handheld is especially important when fishing near any area of high traffic
