Personal Best Tripletail

After spending several days chasing macks and kings with only minor success, I devoted yesterday to finding a tripletail dinner. I'm glad I did.

I ran up and down the St Pete to Clearwater crab buoys with no fish sighted until...

A monster TT ate my shrimp and put me through a fire drill. Eventually, it just fit into the landing net and I was doing my happy dance! It was my largest to date, 18# and 28 inches long.

That thing is huge. Florida state record is over 40#. Hard to imagine that - they really look like black crappie shapewise

sure you didn't catch that over by the Anclote power plant? That's a monster TT. Nice job!

Congrats! That's bigger than I've ever caught, that's for sure!

Question: Did you see it before you caught it or were you blind tossing near the buoys?

That fish is a beast!!! I haven't spent much time targeting TT. Generally, what is the best time of year? Are they around all winter?
  • MoscadorMoscador Posts: 37 Greenhorn
I saw the fish while running the crab trap buoys. I do not blind cast for TTs only sighted fish.

Beautiful triple tail. I caught a 21.5 pounder in tampa bay back in may. What a thrill!

It was delicious. The flesh had a slight pink tint to it and was almost translucent. I grilled it with a little olive oil and spices, just about the best!
