Short snapper seasons & weather have been a problem for me this year, so we have resorted to a little freshwater fishing to put a few meals into the freezer:fishing Many of the creeks & rivers are too low to fish due to the dry conditions, so we scheduled a 1 1/2 day trip to Holmes creek for a little Jack (Chain Pickerel) action. Properly prepared, one of the best eating fresh water fish. The first day we fished downstream from the ramp and found very hungry fish & above average size. Second day, we fished upstream from the same ramp and found the fish still hungry, but size more average. Didn't fish quite as hard the second day, as it occurred to us that someone was going to have to clean the catch :grin Final tally was 52 Jacks, 1 bream, & 1 bass, all caught on yellow spinner bait.
A fun 2 days with great weather!

Great eating if you can deal with some bones!
Not really a problem. Just scale, filet, cut out the rib cage, & gash like you would a sucker.
Careful with such posts, though. Before you know it, they'll be shut down for better part of two years just like triggers.
I know and it sux! thing is, the conditions are best for this fish for only couple of weeks this time of year. Been there before & a good day might be 8-10 fish. I think I predicted several years ago when we were trying to get the freshwater guys to get excited about the saltwater closures, bag limits, etc & was told it didn't apply to them.
