The party's over.
As you all know, what passes for political discourse in this country has turned vile and hateful. No longer do we have civil discussions about the issues, agreeing to respect each other's opinions when we disagree with them. We hate the messenger, despising those on the other side with a vehemence that can cross over to threats and violence. Unfortunately, this national trend has been evident here in our community, and we feel that it will only get worse no matter who is elected President.
The Politics section was split off from Off Topic so that those of us who wanted to discuss the issues could do so without clogging up the rest of the Forum, but it has gotten so nasty here that we are getting complaints even from those who do not participate in the section. It's not likely to get any better, so we have decided to terminate all political, racial and religious discussions on the Forum by closing down the Politics section and forbidding posts on those topics from any other part of the Forum.
There are some here, on both sides of the political spectrum, who have presented their arguments with respect for those who disagree, and we're sorry that they have been swept up with the same broom. To them, as well as to those who couldn't state their case without resorting to the venomous personal attacks, we suggest that there plenty of other sites in the internet that encourage political posting.
To all of you, we appreciate your participation in all areas of the FS Forum, and hope that you'll continue to contribute in a positive manner.
