I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.
we knocked a quail out with a weird shot that caught the bird in flight as it crossed over about 50 yards behind the the one I was shooting at took it home and nursed it back to health. it was a really cool bird
Not a Bobwhite for sure. I do know that. Not sure what it is.
Common Sense can't be bought, taught or gifted, yet it is one of the few things in life that is free, and most refuse to even attempt to possess it. - Miguel Cervantes
I bought some once to work pups with (had a hard time gettin pigeons), put them in a flight pen and run them around daily trying to make them fly..
Training day, set them in a remote launcher, bring dog in on check cord, dog points, launch bird...
30' up, 30' down, dazed bird.
Repeat twice more, go home, slaughter remaining birds, fry and eat, drive 4 hours for pigeons next week.
happy, happy.

Those things are tasty...
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon... No matter how good you are, the bird is going to crap on the board and strut around like it won anyway. I AM NOT A RACIST

Seems to have moved on, haven't heard it recently. I hear they're getting pretty rare in Florida these days.
Lucky. We used to have a covey in the area but no more. We do have feral cats though so maybe that was a good trade? :machinegun
