another sunglass thread....:p

zamogzamog Posts: 302 Deckhand
sent 3 pairs of glasses in for "lifetime" warranty.

Smith is out west, others are Florida

here's results....

1st place - Smith - model was discontinued and they called me and offered a free replacement of equal price, easy to work with.

2nd place - Ocean Waves - Sent 10.00 as they requested on their warranty form, had replacements within 3 days.

Sucking hind teat - Costas - just needed the arms replaced, is still being "reviewed by technician"

was bored and know how much everyone likes sunglass threads.

ps....look Griz, no bad words

All I've worn for 20 years are Costas. Probably only 3 different pair.

  • I have some Costas that need to be replaced. They've been sitting on my desk for a year now.

By the way, thank you for participating within the guidelines Zamog

How does that relate to their customer service?

I've worn Ocean Waves for 10+ years and the one time I had a de-lamination issue, they took care of it right away. They have new owners since I purchased my last pair.

Costa Sux's, has had mine for 16 days, this is the third time I have paid them to do warranty work on their sheet product. I'm OK having product fixed or replaced, but making the customer pay for them for warranty work is crazy. Now I wait to see if they up charge me to fix their problem. I say bumper sticker. I bought my first pair of Smiths two seasons ago, after having heard a lot of good things. Very pleased with them so far.

Another brand I've had good luck with is Revo. You don't hear much about them, but I really like their glass lenses.

Just bought a pair of Maui Jims from Costco. They are wire framed for when I am working. Love them so far.

I use to have Costas until it became a fad and all the kids who never fish started wearing them and putting stickers on their vehicles. I just got bought a pair of Smith's and so far very happy with them.

Broke two lenses. Wasn't even wearing them. Heat I think. No warranty on revos. Beware.

I'm still waiting for warranty work or such. 3 weeks since the glasses have arrived at Costas repair center. My Birthday is Sunday, maybe they are having my glasses gift wrapped and waiting to return to me as a gift?

I'm still looking for a Costas Sucks bumper sticker, start a trend..

Took 4 years to break my revos lens tried to replace but they discontinued my style. You will get a 20% discount on a new pair. After you look through glass its hard to go back.

Bought Costa Hammerhead 580s 9 years ago, still wear them. Can't speak for their customer service but they make shades that last a long **** time! If you're a Police/Firefighter/AD Military you can buy Costas for $50 each if you use Promotive.

Seems Huricane Mathew had another casualty, add two more weeks of waiting. Still no warranty return. Just passed 5 weeks, with just copy and paste replies from the company? Anyone know if businesses are open in Ormond Beach, as this company seems to be at a stand still?

    Finally got a response.
Frames are discontinued, they said they will put my old lenses in new frames for 12.95.
Not the best warranty, but o well.

Had a real bad experience with Costas. Glass cracked in one lens, sent them in to be repaired. Waited 3 weeks, no response from them. Finally called their customer service department, the said that the warranty does not cover cracked lenses however, for sum of $90 they could replace lenses. Ended up agreeing. Waited 6 weeks and they finally arrived in the mail. Never again.

I sent my Costas in a month ago. They called me back a few days ago saying one of the pairs i sent in was discontinued. They offered a new pair for free, i was happy with that, however they told me another 6 weeks before I get them back. 2.5 months to repair 2 pair of sunglasses is pretty bad. I have heard good things about the Smith glasses, might try those after these wear out.

I wear Smith's now; my Costa's that I sent in for repair set on a shelf. I paid more for the repair than I would have paid for a "NIB" on Ebay. So much for the warranty. The silver lining is that the optics on the Smiths are superior!

Stopped buying all the expensive types a long time ago.

Too often break, lose, get scratched or whatever. Last pair was
Ocean Waves and a big hassle to have repaired (admittedly that
    was about 15 years ago).

Also once got sucked into buying Porsches from a local optician.

Now pick up a couple pair from my ophthalmologist's office
when there. No name as I remember and very inexpensive.

Else, buy some $10 aviator types from Costco, Amazon or Wally
    World.

I bought a pair of Ocean Waves from Penny at Minnows and Monsters in Tampa in 2000. I still wear them every day. I hope the new owners make them as well as the old ones.
