I have been to the DR several times, usually went to the north shore in the Cabarete area which is the kite surfing capital of the world, just beautiful, safe, tropical, waterfalls, horseback exploring.

Well I thought this time I would check out the capital of DR, Santo Domingo which is the oldest city in the Americas, wanted to hang with locals...good lord, don't bother and not worth it. Old churches and buildings just suck. Poverty is overwhelming. But I rented an apartment for a month here, so here I am stuck, if I find anything cool I'll post, even felt uncomfortable taking pics.

If you want to see cool European old style churches in South America go to Cuenca, Ecuador, unbelievable, cheap and safe. Plus you can visit the Amazon Basin and Galapagos if you wish.

PS Only good thing is my apartment has WIFI and digital TV, no AC thou but tolerable. Some channels even in English even watched the debate last night.

I wanted to do that, but the wife and most of the people at our resort said " White boy no go wander around DR, get shot, or ****" so I stayed by the pool

lol, I'm staying in the Colonial old school section, I do not think I have seen a caucasian yet, get weird looks from the local men at times and the girls are way too friendly.

A friend of mine spent some time down there, he said the hookers were inexpensive. But they kept trying to put a spell on him.
