Maybe they could come up with a sign in sign out log so they would know how was there and when. And when something happens they would know who to talk to.

I wonder if anyone would put their real name?

Prediction: lots of APBs for "Heywood Jablowme" in the future

The only way to make it work would be with a valid ID No ID no entry.
That would also keep illegals out of there and that in it self may solve most of the problems.

Since you drive in...and pay entry...You must have photo ID when you enter...and have it recorded by the Park service personel. Have them copy down the tag number of all vehicles entering...It would be good to have this info for LE

I spoke with and sat in the lagoon council meeting with Martin S...and spoke prior to the start of the meeting to commissioner David P...and made my opinion as a property owner within the tax district...known to them.

Yes, this was mentioned a few ID (Inlet District) mtgs back in conjunction with the cameras topic. Essentially small cameras at the entrance and exit to the park capturing a shot of vehicle license plates like a Sunpass Toll system that automates reading the shots into an easily downloadable list of what plates are in the park at any time.

The data is not immense like an HD camera capture so a weeks worth can be kept before overwrite. When a problem is reported, LE would have a smaller universe of people to inquire with, particularly should something worse than what's already occurred happen (i.e. assault, fatality), something that requires a true investigation. As well, when minor incident reports come in, LE can query the log for departures shortly after incident time and look for repeat plates over multiple incidents. The latter could potentially be used to send a communication like "we are looking into safety complaints at Sebastian Inlet Park and noticed your vehicle at the location during the time of a few reports (send picture of plate, like Sunpass does for a violation), if you have any information in regards to complaints X, Y, Z at these dates and times, you can contact our office anonymously at (phone#). Rewards are provided for prosecutions."

The key it seems is the Park and FWC working with the ID to build something that actually works - or at least that the ID feels they can go to a judge should something go seriously wrong and hang their hat on the substantial efforts they made to ensure public safety on their property.

cameras at the gate? that will certainly stop that guy on the jetty from whipping a 2oz jig at my boat

I have had jetty anglers make a huge effort to cast egg sinker rigs at the boat when drifting the inlet. Not to good on the gel coat or your head if impacted.

Honestly, They are really just trying to "send a message"...but in reality those who make trouble...will not be phased in the least.
Also, this "fix" will not change the issue of DAYTIME conflict.... which is a real issue.... and has been for a long time.

    Well...Now we have this...

THE NORTH JETTY IS CLOSED INDEFINITELY. WE LOST 45 GRATES DURING HURRICANE MATTHEW THAT WILL HAVE TO BE ORDERED AND REPLACED. WE ALSO HAVE STRUCTUAL ENGINEERS COMING TO PERFORM AN INSPECTION BUT DUE TO ALL THE DAMAGE IN THE STATE, IT WILL BE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THEY CAN GET TO US. WE WILL KEEP YOU ADVISED OF ANY UPDATES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO PAST THE GATE ON THE NORTH JETTY, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED.

THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STATE PARK IS CLOSED INDEFINITELY AND THE NORTH SIDE IS ONLY OPEN FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 7:00 P.M. IF YOU NEED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE AT THE PARK, PLEASE CALL 321-984-4852. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE PARK WHEN IT IS CLOSED, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED.

Nice. They should go ahead and close the whole shabang , for good. They lose those grates every time a storm rolls thru...why don't they temporarily chain those **** things to the jetty ? It's not rocket science.
It's real easy for that committee not to find a solution when you ain't looking for one in the first place.

No more monster hole for the landlubbers! Personally, my view is that this is long past due. Back in the old days when people were civilized it was a nice place for families to enjoy. Today there's too much crime. I wouldn't let my teenage children fish there unsupervised now. I remember when PC started closing land access to some of the best places in the port. It was frustrating, but honestly the demographics have changed significantly and without regular police enforcement it was being trashed in every which way by the same people that accept and live that lifestyle.
