I'm a merc fan
I got some good reports about the e-tec's from a commie guy.
Suzuki has a good reputation.
Honda is slow if you don't over power the hull but they are work horses.

I put 3000 hours on my df140 in 3 years (yes...3 years)...
never a problem, just did routine maintenance every 50 hours...
katrina killed it...
I bought a new boat with the very first batch of df150's in jan of 2006...
I haven't had the time to use it like I did my other boat but I still have close to 4000 hours...
just routine maintenance....
I don't know anyone running yams or mercs that has gotten that kind of use without water pumps, broken timing belts, etc on them...
I do know one guy that blew a df 250 up swallowing a valve at 4000+ hours...
some may dispute my running times, but I assure you those are the hours I had\have on my motors, and it is indeed a lot of time on the water...

I don't find the 4 strokes getting that kind of hours all that surprising. My truck has 60k miles on it and has 2100 hrs on it give or take. I know roads and water aren't the same thing but if you're not running WOT all the time 4k hours doesn't seem unreasonable with proper maintenance.
I have a 1994 225 yamaha that I have been running hard for almost two years now with no problems. I still love my 115 Merc on my other boat so I'm a fan if they hold up under my abuse.

So here you are saying that Suzuki is Yamaha is Mercury?
I don't find the 4 strokes getting that kind of hours all that surprising. My truck has 60k miles on it and has 2100 hrs on it give or take. I know roads and water aren't the same thing but if you're not running WOT all the time 4k hours doesn't seem unreasonable with proper maintenance.
That makes sense too. Still we're seeing car engines getting 300k miles with proper maintenance so i can see these motors getting quite a few hours.
Outboard does not have that option. They run hard.
Its all in the design.
racist
More parts need in the aftermarket??
Suzuki > Yamaha > Mercury.
Did FS just merge with THT?
