Destiny...meant to be...

So about a week ago I was walking by Guitar Center, no intention to stop in, I was past the door and thought...well I can always use a pack of strings or three if I'm in the area, so I turned around and went in.

As usual, give a quick scan of the walls to see if anything catches my eye, but they never have anything I w....wait...what? Is that a Spector I see across the room in the used section?? (for those not familiar, Spector is a highly sought after brand of bass guitar)

That's gotta be a Korean one right? Well, maybe not as Korean ones don't go for over 700 or so. This was $1,100

Let's just have a look there's got to be something wrong at that price...made in the Czeck Republic. Czeck,.couple tiny dings, other than that it looks pretty much pristine. Like unplayed pristine. No fret wear, thumb wear, shoot even the pickups still say EMG. Anyone who plays EMGs knows that the lettering on the plastic pickup cover lasts about a week. (that's the only drawback too, not a big fan of active electronics, but hey, can't win 'em all)

So I sleep on it and do some research and they're going for an easy 2 grand average on Ebay, and the cheapest "buy it now" is 1,650. Uhhh yea need to get in there before someone else snatches it up.

I race in, screw haggling at that price, and basically say..."take my money give me that bass now!"

They take my money, well not all of it, because it's on a "police hold" Basically with high end items with little or no documentation it's SOP. Meaning I couldn't take it home for about ten days.

But yesterday was the day. Yessssss did not get reported stolen. I'm still in a bit of shock that GC was cheaper than anything on ebay, but I'll take it.

I looked them up. They make some pretty nice looking guitars. What model did you get?

Back around 2000 I helped my boss move his mom's things into storage after she died. Besides paying me he gave an old Gibson Melody Maker & the Amp that went with it. When he gave it to me I didn't know what they were worth. I gave the guitar to my stepson & kept the amp. I looked the amp up on Ebay they hadn't had one like it in over 10 yrs & it sold for $2,700. I thought is was a piece of junk. It only has one ten inch.

My brother-in-law is a musician. You walk into his home studio and have to wonder how much money is tied up in his guitars (never mind other equipment). He is on a world-wide tour right now and when they came to JAX a few weeks ago he and the percussionist walked through my house and rather than commenting on the house were saying where they would put the "Logic Board," and then this room for that and the other room for this.

I took a broom stick and tied some strings to it once and attached it to an old was tub, made one hell of a bass. Cost me basically nothing. LOL

    Nice find!! :)

It's a Euro LX 4. And it can be shocking how much old beater guitars can be worth.

mindyabidness, 1100 is relatively cheap for a premium instrument.

I paid over twice that for my custom fretless 5 string, and still feel like I stole it.
