But most folks can live just fine on 50k, it is quite a lot if you are smart about it.

See a lot of businesses popping up with $25/hour jobs?

Don't you think that it's a little grandiose to think that everyone else should make as money to live as you see fit?

You're a commie. Plain and simple.

I caught a lot more fish out of my 12' Gandy than I did my Hewes.

I was also a lot happier 10 yrs ago when I was tier 1 help desk when times were much simpler.

Now I'm an Engineer. And a lot less happy.

It doesn't matter how much you bank...

    Says who?

    Our customers.
Making 40-50k is not very good anywhere in Florida.....

    Exactly
I was paying 890 for a glorified studio in South Florida in 1992... I probably would have stayed if I could find a decent place for 490.

It was just south of 125th st. It was better than carol city, that's for sure. I wouldn't live there now

Sounds like you're in a very shallow talent pool ;)

It does help make life easier and a bot less stressful.

I don't let life or the job stress me out anymore. Life is too short

Yeah, Detroit is a thriving metropolis as is Akron Ohio.
Watched the union (UTRW) protect marginally skilled/minority and drug addicted workers to the point the plant (young plant too, only 18 years old) was shut down for profit loss issues.
Affirmative Action was also a factor though it tied right in with the unions as they preyed upon the ignorant minorities and welcomed them into their ranks.
Numbers = $$$ to the union elite and they don't care if the worker only has 3-6 months of gainful employment.

I have one for this... Was in Elyria Ohio in 1983, just graduated and the unemployment rate was above 25% there... It was a little detroit... GM (fisher body plant in Elyria) didn't want to pay the union wage for the new car they were developing.. Flat out shut the plant down. No one there including my uncle was making a killing, maybe 15 bucks an hour (very good money) that is it ! They pulled the plug and offered everyone 9 bucks and hour at the new Tennesse plant making what was touted as the "new american car" The Saturn...
I know I have put this up there before, but it partially destroyed that town. Along with Bendix, ridge tool, the Ford Thunderbird Plant... and so on. They moved strictly to lower wages, reduce retirement, etc... One guy killed his wife and 3 kids (would be National news today)..
So, lets blame that on the Union ? Or the corporate top that reaped the benefits... It is Obtuse to blame the Unions for problems, unless you are a follower of TV misleading news and paid scandalous reporting... It is like believing Trump is an honest person.

Those of you that are unhappy with your income, cost of living, etc. get off this forum and go DO something. Holy ****. I once had a "friend" tell me everyone should make 50k. We don't speak much anymore. You don't have to have a lot to make a lot. Start somewhere and go DO it!

    you feel?

    collusion - active and tacit.

the 'major leagues' were fixed and that is felt all through the game - even the farm leagues.

So what is the avg UAW retirement costing the company these days, $150/hour? More?

Back when I worked for Firestone the big money workers were the tire builders, they were paid a base wage and then an incentive based on production %.
Base was around 13/hr but with a 150 - 200% production rate pay could reach $25/hr (back in 1983).
All of the union reps in tire building would come to work, bust their *** the 1st two hours of their shift (to get the % up as the 1st two hours determined your wage for the day, per union rules), then take off for union business for the other 6 hours of their shift.

    Quite a scam.
I felt really bad for some of the older guys that were 2 years short of a retirement when the plant closed.
I got a kick however out of the union reps that hastened the closure crying the blues about the unfairness of it all.

Reap what you sow comes to mind.

I'm not as old as you :shrug

In all serious, IT is a diverse field. I think you are specialized in graphic arts. I have gravitated to general Windows based systems maintenance with a solid background in Citrix and VMware, among other platforms.

I could leave my company for much more $$$, but I've been at my job for over 11 years. And I'm not doing to shabby.

Why are you so hateful towards the field you're in? Shouldn't you look in the mirror and blame that person if you feel entitled for more compensation?
