100s of Nurse Sharks (video)

While on our way out yesterday we came across a school of Blue Runners. Figured we would stop and snag some for King bait, but when we pulled up on the school we saw 100s of Nurse Sharks about 20ft below the surface. This was in about 60ft of water. I was driving, so Nick jumped in with my camera and got some of the coolest footage my camera has ever seen. After watching the footage I was bummed out that I didn't get to see that first hand, even though the view from up in the tower was awesome as well. Anyway, I know we have cold water moving in a bit deeper, so could that be what has pushed these sharks in? Spawning? Migrating?

BTW, The other day I left a clear bottom 5 gallon bucket with a rope handle that a friend made me out of an Ecolab bucket at the wash-down hose at the Sebastian Inlet boat ramp. I would really like to have it back. Hopefully someone on here found it.

Probably a spawning aggregation. Nurse sharks aren't known to migrate to any extent; usually stay in a localized area. Cool sight nonetheless!

WOW! That is just amazing footage! I confess that the idea of seeing sharks like that gives me the heebie jeebies a bit (even though I've had small ones on the line before) - but that is really beautiful footage. Thanks for putting that out there!

In 2009 on a slick calm day saw a couple acre size area out of sebastian that had thousands of them. Also in about 50 to 60 foot. Luckily I had my kids on board and they were like 8 and 11 so really got to see a treat!

Awesome video. No cobes though? About this time last year I caught a 13' nurse near the 8A. Upwelling is here and sharks should be showing up everywhere soon. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! We catch them fairly regularly along the beaches out of Canaveral. Typically just one here and there. Never seen anything like that...

I saw this before in 2003 or 2004, just north of Sebastian Inlet in 60 feet, it was about the same time of the year as I recall, it just happened to coincided with mini season. We dove with them but didn't have a camera. They seemed alot more curious than when they are on the bottom as they were rubbing against us and nibbling our fins. That's an awesome video and it brings back memories.
