Surf Fishing Question

Hey Guys,

Noob fisherman here, Been going to Sebastian inlet with no success fishing buck tail, just got a new chartreuse crystal minnow I am looking forward to trying.

Wanting to do some surf fishing for snook.

So my question is what techniques should I be using? I want to use hard or soft artificial bait, not live bait. What should I be using? What time of day or night should I be going?

Thanks for the input, been great reading this forum lately.

Live or dead bait a chicken rig with circle hooks.
Cut clam. oyster or peeled shrimp.
Duck should ring in on this.

Cool, what time of day do you think is best?

I had to google chicken rig, so basically getting multiple baits on one line?

2 or 3 rods in sand spikes.
Kick back and relax. If fishing off the beach.
Wait for the rod to start bending. then crank the fish in.

Fish less...watch more.... after a while...you'll see the patterns of the guys who catch.

Look for the guys at pre dawn / post dusk...who are walking the edge of the sand...casting parallel to the beach...10 -15 feet from the shore...

    White is a traditional color....

I have been fishing the surf for last week on/off in state park general area. Have been getting Snook, Jack's, Ladyfish. Get there early just before Sunrise and fish to about 830am, bite is over by then generally. Look for bait in water, but even if bait is not there, sometimes the fish are. I have been throwing a mullet looking paddle tail in gold/silver and bronze/silver. Have caught fish up to about 36" in surf. Some bite occur 10 feet in front of you, other 20 yards out.

    Are sandflees catchable near Sebastian?

If they were...nobody would ever say.... they sure are not everywhere.

We can get them in NSB
Most of the time. But that is a low tide thing if they are in the surf.
    Then fish the incoming tide.
    I have one.

Go to the very 1st drop off at low tide the drop should only be about a foot.
Drag that rake right up that slope. If sand flees are there you will get them.

I myself can't say because I haven't looked for them on the beaches (ref. sandflees), have been throwing lures. I also have not watched anyone on the beaches here lately looking for them either. But i'm sure as the old saying goes, right place, right time.

Also if you're fishing the Sebastian area, join the Sebastian fishing club(cheap), lots of guys there with lots of knowledge of the area. Meetings only in fall - spring
