Boat Prices These days?

AC ManAC Man Posts: 7,305 Admiral
I know this is a boating question but curious what the OT boaters think. Owned several POS boats to high end offshore boats. Been boatless for the first time in my life for 5 years. Getting back into it and the prices in the last 10 years have doubled in a bad economy. Mine in my business are the same except for equipment that is higher end.

100K for a 24 bay boat seems insane.

I bought a 2004 36 Contender in 2006 fully loaded with trip four strokes and 225 hours like new for 100K My 21 Key West Bay Reef brand new was 30k in 2008.

10 years later they want more than that used. I don't get it.

Here is the kicker, 22 Sea Ark metal boat and a 22 Carolina rolled gunnel skiff 35k new.LOL

Any other boat shoppers finding this?

I want to buy used but doesn't seem worth it

Go back to school, get an 8 year degree and become a big earner at 80K a year, then you can afford anything... It is only 6 years more of school, about 150K worth... Or, just work harder, stop spending money on things like cell phones, burger king, premium gas, save that money, then buy whatever you want...
I don't get why people complain about the price of things, it is market conditons, what DEMAND prices them at...

Just kiding of course as I stand firm against having to do this past the age of 30 !

In all honesty you may have to wait for an economic downturn, until someone else is hurting and has to sell. You could have practically stole any boat from 2010 - 2013, maybe 14. I see those in charge now running the gambit of fluctuation. Severe cycles coming every 5 - 7 years as the squeeze prices, and take ever penny from the working class. They prepare for it. I think they see the working class as dumb and they can manipulate.
Thus, drive up prices now, sell homes, cars, boats, etc. THEY KNOW that the price of a house should not be 260K in 2006, then 120K in 2011, and then back to 220K now. That house is really only worth 160 ? 180? tops and yety, we are doing it again ! Right in front of our faces like before, we have seen this and still fall for it ! Create a small recession, force all that away from 20% reaping the benefits of gold prices and shorting the 401K stock portfolio. Wash, rinse, repeat...

Just like the big outcry over brexit, big deal and nothing really happened except they made millions shorting stocks, then buying them back at a lower cost which they will sell in a week. Just imagine having a million to play with on this market... Easy money... 10 % swings all the time, 100K anyone !

Curious that so many don't see a looming problem with price fixing...
Wont be long now until you have to pay for your browser. Want to watch you tube (need chrome) want to use exel or word, you will need Explorer and the yearly fee package that microsoft is going to charge you... All part of the grand plan to keep you on the hook... All thought out really well from a round table of crooks...

Yea, but nobody around here would be seen in a 2 wheel drive, gasoline powered, non crew cab truck with cloth seats. Add in the Lariat trim, diesel, crew cab 4x4 and you're over 55k easily. The prices are rediculous, but people pay them.

It's true. There are deals out there, but they seem harder to find theses days. Looking for an inexpensive bay skiff this go around.

You better buy a bigger boat so you can take all your techs out fishing to keep them happy. :wink

My friends loaded 36' in very good condition couldn't get 100K for it in 07 or 08.
It ended up going for 95K and the boat broker still got his cut.

I paid $24K for our new 2008 Tidewater 21 bay boat with Yamaha F150 and tandem axle trailer back in 2007. I recently looked (briefly) at upgrading to a 24 ft bay boat and the 'mid tier' new ones are around $60K. Used ones are priced relative to the extremely high priced new ones so our 9 year old boat is worth probably $30K. LOL.

You're going to see the decent older boat hulls dry up as well, it's cheaper to buy an old Aquasport 22 and have it semi-restored and repower it cheaper than buying new, or even decently used.

That's what I want to do. Get an older late 70s or early 80s robalo or Aquasport and throw a 4 stroke on it. Figuring i can do it for at or under 20k. depending on what i find.

Exactly my point. New ones have gone up so much people want what they paid 10 years ago. Really like the Tidewater, they are getting tired of seeing me at the dealership.:grin

I got my boat on Craigslist, 1997 proline 34 ft. 2007 Suzuki 225's for 45K, No one is looking at it. I had a guy offer me 25K and he said he is seeing 35ft Donzi's (same hull as mine) go for 30K. I told him good luck and buy it, he said it had the original motors on it and had passed. I hate to see it go, but with work and 2 boys going to prep school, we just don't have the time for it. I haven't been out on the boat in 3 months.

M buddy sold his 34 seavee for 10K more than he bought it, he paid about 120K for and sold it a few years later. He sold it last year.

    Can't compare a proline to a Donzi.
That's like comparing apples to oranges.
I'm not going to get into details. But I have worked on many of both brands.

I did notice something people are picking up inventory of used larger vehicles like crazy. Tons of used small cars on the lots. If you want to fish offshore consider a single inboard you can convert to some sort of Yanmar volvo or other diesel. I/O will also work. Inshore fishing is tough too many options smaller less power. Different design Maybe.

We have a 1998 23' CC. When I started pricing newer boats :willynilly we decided to just repower with 300 Zuki and we couldn't be happier.

I know the Proline and Donzi are different, that is why I said good luck. IF you see a 35ft Donzi for 30K there must be something really wrong with it.

Boat and vehicle prices are outrageous. In 2000, I bought a brand new F-150 4x4 Supercab 5.4 with all the bells and whistles, minus leather, for $27k. I also bought a new 2001 Key West 196 BR w/ Yamaha 150 for $21k. I've since sold both. Went to a used SUV because of our newborn at the time and bought a new 2007 Action Craft 1720se for $28k. Now our little guy is 8 and we are wanting a new truck and a bigger boat (21-23ft bay boat). Now a new F-150 Supercrew 4x4 with limited options is $45k and new bayboats we like are in the $60ks. I have a feeling something is going to pop, just like when all the home prices drastically increased. Guess I'll have to see what gives before we decide on anything. Heck to replace my Action Craft exactly the way it sits is in the mid to upper $40ks. Banks also are in the mix too, as they are offering financing for vehicles up to 96months. My buddy just financed a used flats boat for 10yrs.
