Yipeee another AC thread

So the window shaker on our porch (12x26) took a dump and the wife is in full blown "I don't care what it costs just get me a new AC":hairraiser
It was a 5000, and just barley was good enough.
It was a fedders with the back end exposed to the elements. BUT it did last 10 years
My question is.......How high do I need to go with the new one? 8000, 10000, 12000?
Any recommendations on specific brands to buy OR avoid would be appreciated.

The window opening is max 18" high by 36" wide.

those fedders are tanks! Get the biggest your electrical can support. As far as brands I dont know, I havent worked on a window banger in 10 years. Ask on TFF, youll get better input :P

they still make Fedders, you can find them at amazon

without doing a heat load it's hard to say, some rooms that size use a 1/4 ton some need 2.5 tons.

what is the room made out of? what climate? roof? color? insulation? windows? orientation? walls
