Does anyone other that Best Buy offer this service? $150 seems a bit expensive but if that is the going rate so be it. Maybe now that Circuit City is gone they can charge that much? :shrug
I have done it myself and it works ok. But I'm not sure I have it set up for the most optimal sound and picture. Also I want to find out how to record from my DVR to DVD's. Hoping that advice will be included.
"optimal" ? I think you might be over thinking.
What kind of system are we talking about.
I'm just not sure it is set up properly. Some components can only be heard through the sound system and some things can't be recorded the way I have it set up.
ok, I thought you might have HDMI inputs with different specs. In some cases depending on the frame rate its better to have certain sources plugged into certain HDMI inputs.(24fps vs. 60fps, etc)
As far as recording, anything that you want to record has to have the same path as the sources that are successfully recording. Not all sources will be recordable depending on security in place and what hacks/cheats you have in place. Also I don't think the Geeks are allowed to set you up for illegal recording. The kid might do it anyway, but I dont think they are supposed to.
The reason I'm asking is I have to tear it all apart to replace my carpet. If it wasn't too expensive I was just going to have someone who knows the details hook it back up for me. Thanks.
A couple months ago bought Mrs Baits a 50" Samsung and a Sony surround sound system.
Best Buy also wanted $150 to install so told them to go pound sand. There were also other
problems but I won't go into here.
One of my neighbors is good at that so did a quick installation of the TV only. Sound system
is still not connected but he said he will come back when he has more time.
I printed out the Owners Manual from the Samsung web site but the Mrs still has not
gone in to figure out how to keep the screen brightness constant regardless of the room lighting.
Aah well, . . . such problems.

$150 is probably about average considering the guy has to drive to your house, spend an hour or two there setting it up.
The way around this is to hire the guy directly and not through Best Buy. A lot of those guys run their own business on weekends when they don't work for Best Buy.
i had an issue with trying to set up a Static IP for the security cameras and could not get it to work. Asked one guy in the store about since he was driving a company truck and he gave me his card for his private business. Came in one Saturday and got it working for $20 in about 30 minutes.
We just bought one of the new samsung also. They have everything on them now a days, WIFI, just about anything you can name. I gpt to call the internet provider to get my password. I wrote it down but can't find it. I have the sony surround system too with a 100 amp subwoofer I think it is. It'll make the floor shake.

If you have a DVR from DirecTV or Dish network you might not be able to transfer those recordings to DVD disks. There is some kind of encoding that won't play after the transfer. Even swapping the hard drive from one DVR to another won't work. This may also apply to cable company DVR's without some kind of hack. If you have a Tivo DVR or other generic DVR you may have some luck reading the manual or going to a support group website to see what others have done.
While using HDMI cables is a lot easier to hook up, the HDMI circuitry allows the people who provide the TV shows to encode signals that will prevent you from recording some shows via that HDMI cable. Just sayin'.

if your internet provider supplied the router and password(and it sounds like they did as you need to call them for the password), then the password may be printed on the router itself. Just a waste of money without the password.... no provider wants 500 people a day calling for their passwords.
