Key West fishing trip 5-14-16

We headed down to key west for the weekend and had a great time fishing for a couple days.

We mostly spearfished but also did some bottom fishing.

Nice fish! No details? What type of bait, depth, how was the current? That's the sort of info we like! :fishing

    Hey conquistador.

For bait we used ballyhoo and bonita chunks. When we did bottom fish it was on a drop that went from about 30 to 60 pretty quickly. The current was just right. Thats why we anchored cause we originally started off spearfishing in that area but the current was a little too strong. The water was a little murky all weekend. Usually between 20-30 feet of vis. As soon as the chum bag hit the water we had hundreds of yellowtail just behind the boat. Even had a 80+pound amberjack chasing some of our tails. Never seen an amberjack that big right on the surface. We could have caught our limit of 13 inch yellowtails with how thick they were but nobody wanted to filet that many fish. We had 1 person yellowtailing while the others bottom fished. In that spot we caught 14 yellowtails, 2 or 3 red groupers, 1 mutton, and a few break offs. I assume from big AJ's. After about an hour of bottom fishing we were itching to jump back in so we moved a little shallower and jumped in and speared a few more reds, muttons and a couple hogs. All of our spearfishing was in 20-40 feet. The bigger muttons we got were in 20-25 feet. I dont know if that was because of the mutton spawn or what but it was awesome to see some nice muttons that shallow.
