I'm fortunate to have seen it happen a dozen times or more but it's still awesome every time. The thing drafts about 36 feet running like that, lots of boat under the water.
Late last year I was flying back from Newark to Jacksonville. The flight mostly decends over the coast around Savannah and The Brunswicks, then turns inland just north of Fernandina.
I was on my iPad and looking out the window when I saw this. I recognized it immediately since I have seen a number of these departures from the water (being well guarded by a Coast Guard M16).
Grainy pic since it was through an airplane window on an iPad and not zoomed. But you can clearly see the well drilled CG protection.

Just looks that way due to the magnification, I was about a 1/2 mile away when I shot that pic. The sub itself is probably 750 feet at least from shore.
