2004 31' Fountain TE in contract. What do I need to know?

I found a decent deal on a 2004 31' Fountain TE with 2006/2008 Optis. I am in contract on it pending the survey.

I just hired John Campbell to do the survey. We are shooting for next week.

I have read a few threads about stringer and transom rot in these boats but they were both 98's. Anyone know if they changed their glass schedules by 2004?

What I do know about these boats is:

- Fast
- Great ride at cruise
- Fuel efficient
- Narrow
- Require a lot of tab control (you have to drive them)
- Great steering control

This boat is not stepped. It is the open bow configuration with the casting deck.

I have also read mixed reviews on POP Yacht brokerage. This boat was listed with them. I am in contract for substantially less money than it was originally listed at (30% less). They have been good to work with so far.

I appreciate any additional insight before my survey next week.

Nice boats, good construction, a surveyor is an excellent idea, but nothing takes the place of a good sea trail, they are transom heavy, trolling with following seas gest a little challenging , Good luck

Thanks. A sea trial is part of the survey in this case. We will also be testing compression and checking the ECM's

Any idea when they went to composite stringers?
