Jupiter 4/30 - Solo again

Tried to rally a friend or two to fish with me on Saturday, but got about 8 "no"s. Since I don't have kids, it's easier for me to get out than others.

Day started out bad...forgot cast net at home. Turned around and wasted 30 minutes to go back and get it. Launched and found very nice pilchards on the inside. 3 throws with my 6' net blacked out the well.

Headed out, about 8:45 by now, and decided since I had live bait to start on the edge. Free lined 2 rods and one down a little. Deeper rod keeps getting hit by kings. Cutoff city. Finally hook one, but the fight is different. Knew I had him tail wrapped or foul hooked. After a slow fight, get him to the boat...hooked right in the side. 20-25lbs goes in the box.

2 minutes later, get another screaming run...sailfish going nuts. Pulling lots of line and starting to go around the next boat over (possibly Semana or Semana II). Have to reel in 2 other rods and chase it down. Good fight for about 15-20 minutes. Get him to the boat, set the rod down, grab the leader, reach for the bill, then the hook comes out. Fish swam away and appeared to be fine. Interestingly, the top bill was only about 2" longer than the bottom bill.

Reset and got sick of the deep kingfish cutoffs so decided to troll offshore. Started at 250' and went out from there. Got a football blackfin at 450'. Turned around at 600 with no other hits. Went back to the location of the tuna bite and drifted live baits. Nothing.

Headed back in to the ledge. 20 minutes of nothing. Getting ready to move in shallower from the 150' then get a kingfish screaming run. Get it to the boat and line breaks right before I hit it with the gaff.

Shortly after, get another screaming run. This one end up being another sail. This time I get him on the smallest rod/reel...Penn 4500 spinfisher with 25lb mono. Fish runs over to the boat that pulled up right next to me while I was fighting the kingfish (thanks buddy!). Fish is getting close to spooling me, so have to reel I. Two other rods and get ready to chase. Look down and realize that I am about out of line. Get down to about 10 wraps on the spool and have to grab the spool. Obviously I can't let the last 3' of line out! Get lucky and he doesn't break off. Get the line back after a long fight. Almost get spooled two more times, again having to chase. Get him to the boat and same thing as before. Well this time the line broke instead of the hook pulling. Which, since I was solo, was about as good. I was dead tired and had to quit. Went in about 2 and found the wife paddle boarding.

To those that may have seen a crazy guy on a 21' Contender driving around like a wild man chasing sailfish that were closer to your boat than mine...sorry, but thanks for not running my line over.

If you are headed out tomorrow, kingfish deep in 130' to 150'. Sailfish deep and on surface. Same depth
