The one that got away...and the one that didn't - Jupiter 4/28/16

Full disclosure, I fished around the full moon last Friday/Saturday and struck out on pelagics while taking a beating from mother nature. Did box 5 snappers including a decent mutton and threw back a nice red grouper that was a week away from being dinner. Nothing worth posting.

So the full moon faded, seas laid down, and I had to get back out. Ran Jupiter yesterday morning with sabikis and some pretty ballyhoo. Big sardines and small cigar minnows were all over the bait spots, we loaded the livewell fairly easily. Started trolling rigged hoos in 90' off Juno Beach, zig zagged all over the ocean out to 700'. Only saw some little rips and scattered small garbage, a few Always Forward floating flip flops, temps were 77-79 degrees and water was beautiful blue. Didn't even get a knock down on a 5 line spread. Live baited for a minute in 400' and had a schoolie mahi hooked up and then off. We saw a free jumping SWORDFISH, yes swordfish, in 450'. Just a pup, wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it jump 4-5 times, definitely had the distinct dorsal fin and fat little sword belly. The big center console AD/HD was trolling the area and saw it too.

Moved into 200' and had a flurry of action that made the day. Deep bait gets hit and up comes a nice cow mahi. Clearing lines, it charges the boat, go for the gaf, big bull is with her and lit up. Pitch a sardine that swims right back to the transom and the bull almost hits the motor as he crushes it. Fish on! Bull rips drag and does a few amazing jumps by the boat. Fish off! Ugh, was easily a 20#+ fish. Gaf the cow and at least have one nice fish on ice. We reset and immediately the deep bait gets crushed again. We're thinking the bull came back, but the fish is digging deep. Well, it wasn't the bull....
