update on the cancer scare

amighoamigho Posts: 776 Officer
Well the doc ordered every exam in the medical book, the giant lump in my neck is a Worthens tumor, parotidectomy scheduled for June. They checked and double checked all the pictures, found a benign hemioma on my liver, a hernia in lower abdomen, no lung cancer though. The chief of the ent clinic went up my nose yesterday with a booger scope and found what he determined to be "something odd" with a really long name, they will biopsy during the parotidectomy. He gave me some really long name, said it presents itself as cancerous and said it is quite rare, I should have written it down but my mind was going Mach3, I will get the notes from the visit soon. Still not out of the woods with the lymphoma, I was put on a "monitor every 60 days status" so it is early on. This is that time in life to swallow that bitter pill, fight like a champ, count on the prayers of others to stay strong, and put faith in the expertise of the medical staff. It may be minor...it may be major.

Sending positive thoughts. My wife has been fighting lung cancer for several years and is currently in remission. I would always try and go with her to all her appointments because the wife would not remember anything the doc said and she would be more confused leaving than going in, which is fully understandable. There are wonderful treatments out there so keep a positive thought and keep us informed.

Hope all goes well for you. A friend of mine just had a tumor removed from right lung on Monday, they ran some tests yesterday and found out it has some metastasis to the pleura spaces so now she needs chemo :( Cancer sucks!

They found out she had the tumor after being in a car accident and saw it in the X-rays, a blessing in disguise I guess.

    Don't know where you live?

But down here, Lynn Cancer Institute (FAU in Boca Raton) and Moffitt (USF in Tampa)
seem to be the top two places where the best university level medical oncologists
    and related docs practice.

My life has been saved via Lynn and my sister-in-law via Moffitt.

Just a few years ago we would probably be dying from cancer or dead by now.

She ended up larger than we thought. We thought more Sheltie-vet says she's all Collie.

She's doing great and is well loved. The Pit Bull in the picture is her buddy Blue, but Xena is definitely in charge.
