Would a penn squall 50W 2 speed be sufficient for high speeding? Would a bent butt be a must? What kind of options are out there for a more budget rod? LEts say under $200. Thanks for any help.
Yes. 50VSW. Load that sucker with 80lb braid and your ready. A bent butt is not a necessity but makes things easier in some circumstances depending on your boat setup for trolling.

I picked up my first 50W reel a few months ago while it was on sale for $120...nothing stellar except it does its job well. Okuma Solterra 50W. Here are the specs off Amazon. It is a big reel, seems to be well put together and have used it just once so far but it does catch fish.
Just fishing on US 1 in Lake Park has a huge selection of bent butt rods under $200 and all kinds of inexpensive 50w reels, including many rebuilt and re conditioned Penn int. 50's that are guaranteed. They have the cheapest prices around and a huge selection of new reels many that I never saw before.

I think that Diawa makes a bent butt that is less expensive than most.
