Anchor recommendations

Greetings All:

I have 04 210 Wellcraft Fisherman CC. We fish from St Augustine to Islamorada inshore and have difficultly getting a good anchor grab. I have two anchors, one is a rubber coated deal and the other is a "walmart special" one that came with the boat. I have 10 ft of Chain as well. I cant seem to "hold anchor" inshore in St Auggy on the muchish bottom, but it'll hold all day long in the back country in Islamorada. Is there a combination anchor that will work in the muck and the backcountry?

It may have more to do with the amount of anchor rode you are using....

Ive put out short and Ive long lined it....it just seems to plow through the sludge if there is considerable current or wind. Tried to anchor up off Melbourne (IRL) 2 weeks ago in 15 MPH winds in 7 ft of water with long and short throws, NADA, just pulled right through the "yuck" ended up calling it a very short day.

Try a Danforth or fluke style. Make sure the line is 3x the depth. You should only need around a 10-15lber. When your dropping anchor, lower it down and begin letting line out "testing" it every 5 or so feet. As it begins to grab, keep tension, then let out a couple more feet and hold. Do this a few times then hold the anchor taught and you should feel it set in. Then just tie it off

Rubber coated is about worthless. Get a bigger Danforth 10' of chain should be enough if it is thick enough.
Recommendation is a 7 to 1 scope, I have gotten away with a 3 to 1 scope often.

The chain makes ALL the difference. I can hold bottom in 140ft with 300ft of rope and 30 ft of heavy *** chain with no issue. Boat is a heavy/big 25.

No I actually like to use walmart rope ha ha ha ha ha.

This is what I have been using for the past 15yrs or so. They make 12# and 18# anchors. They are heavy and sharp so they stick fast. Also, you can rig it so they are "breakaway".
