So I have it stuck in my head now and all I can think about is catching an African Pompano! I have never caught one and hear about guys catching them or spearing them etc. I am looking for any tips/tricks so that my next venture offshore I can try to target them. I guess there is a captain in my area, Captain Wes Bedell, who targets them. From what I gather so far is that they are attracted to white jigs/bucktails or freelined live bait. I am also under the impression they are found off of wrecks and larger/higher relief structure than just live bottom. Most of our fishing is done between 40-65 miles offshore so I am really wondering if the depths we fish at are in the range of the depth for the species. Times of year would also be helpful. Anyways, maybe just a pipe dream but it would be cool to catch one!
