New to FT Lauderdale

I moved down here from Destin a month ago. Finally I managed to go fishing today on a drift boat out of Hillsboro Inlet. I never have fished like this. I thought it was nuts to drift NW from a SE blow that was pushing 15knt using only a 1 OZ slip lead, 6' of mono leader, a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook and frozen herring. I went completely without tackle and expectations yet I caught 2 Yellowtail, 2 throw back Red Groupers, a banded rudder fish, cut off by a King and a throwback Trigger.

I'm pretty clueless if this is to be expected or it was just a bad day. I do know I'll be fishing my tackle next weekend.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

    Robbr,
I used to fish out of Destin years ago and I'm sure it hasn't changed much. The fishing there was awesome! Head boats in this area are hit & miss. Don't have high expectations and you'll be alright.
There are some good 6 packs that will put you on fish. (Palm Beach & Jupiter)
Try the Miami Mutton Man if you want to catch fish out of Miami.
