How do you think this red did after you released it - minus its slime-coat...???!!! Ridiculous treatment of a fish to be released...You DID release it didn't you? Being conservative and resource minded...

I'm not conservative - or liberal :wink. I am very resource-minded.

You may or may not be able to tell from the photo, however, the deck of the kayak is wet. I use a rubber EGO net to land fish. I handle all fish with my wetted hands but as little as possible. A wet deck, rubber net and wetted hands helps to minimize removing the fish's slime coat.

This particular Red Drum was 23". After taking the photo it went into the fish bag then transported home on ice in a cooler to be filleted, cooked then eaten. Guts go in the vegetable garden soil and head and skin go in the freezer for crab trap bait.

Glad he went home for dinner but one red fish more or less is not going to affect the resource. Their numbers aren't exactly stressed or in short supply. As many as are caught and released in our area, I've never seen a floater. Leads me to believe they must be pretty hardy.

I think maybe, just maybe, the poster was given the OP a dose of his own medicine. L2Y has a tendency to see only those who do wrong, and pointing it out to them, regardless if he is doing wrong too. Course his wrong always has a reason unlike others.
