Palm Bay Mayor William Capote warned the council against using such harsh language like "state of emergency" in their approach to handling the lagoon crisis, warning that the bad publicity that could be drawn from that language could undo the hard work of the tourism office in attracting visitors.
I bet that big pile of rotting fish won't generate any " Bad publicity" :rotflmao
What an idiot!

This clown reminds me of the mayor in the first jaws movie.
This is really funny! After years and years of approving every development project that was proposed along the river and the ocean they've been bitten in the butt, HARD! Now they want the state's taxpayers to foot the bill for the cleanup. Idiots! Brevard County did this to itself, no help was needed or asked for from the rest of the state. We crapped in our own nest and now, like a bunch of Democrat whiners we want someone else to buy us out of it. This is not going to go away any time soon; the same algae problem in Texas several years ago took 4 years just to get it under control and the effort is still ongoing to rectify the water and wildlife problems. Every golf course in Brevard and every septic tank east of the St. Johns River eventually sends fertilizer or sewage to the Indian River. Golf courses dump TONS of fertilizer into the lagoon system. Sure, we have laws against this but guess what folks, money talks. Golfers don't want to play on less than bright green grass so the owners look the other way when maintenance dumps tons of fertilizer on the course. Your tax dollars at work!
Just wait til the tax assessments are issued. Watch your neighbors frolic to sell, and get ready for a ton of foreclosures. People are stoopid, all this is part of the plan. The wealthy will prevail, and nothing will be done aside from more pocket lining($$$). The Space Coast is doomed the fate of Miami/Orlando. Who can stop Disney?

He's not just an idiot, he's a ******bag. Because his intention is to trick people into coming to Florida to swim and fish and boat, and they won't know that the water is a festering sea life graveyard until they spend their money and arrive.
Update to "Go Trudi". Commissioner Barfield proposed the creation of a ballot amendment to create a special taxing district to propose an annual tax of $1 per $1,000 of taxable property value. What do you know....the only Commissioner against even creating a ballot amendment to let the citizens decide is Trudi. REALLY? Already claiming she cant support a "tax" because the details of how exactly the money would be used has not been established (this was a PROPOSAL). You have got to be kidding me....how about saying "Yes" and working to make sure that the amendment language is worded in such a manner that the "Tax" (clearly a taboo word for Trudi) dollars are used effectively, and we don't end up with a FL lottery type revenue stream that just gets used to supplement public works budgets as a bait and switch. Hard to believe we have a Commissioner wining to the Governor's office one week for money (yes Trudi it still is money that was collected through taxes) and then being unwilling to let her constituents decide if they are willing to put their money where their mouth is to start taxing themselves to pay for the mess we have collectively caused. Gotta love politics and politicians....I would like to say THANK YOU to Commissioner Barfield for taking a rationale step forward for generating money for lagoon-related projects.
Another example of dysfunction: the fact that money is allocated to dredge the canals... but everyone is arguing over where to store the dredge material...
This is why a lagoon restoration district or something like that might be a good idea... take the local politics out of the equation...

Walt started it all. Just take a moment to review the assets of the mouse before you discard the influence of Florida's detriment.
