Turkey Success

Well been doing a lot of scouting and have not seen much in the way of signs but have seen a few hens and even a small flock of about 8 hens. No gobbles at all. So we went out hunting on opening day. Saturday it was raining in the morning so didn’t get to my spot until 9:30 called and called and nothing. Sunday tried a different spot, nothing but one hen came in and that was it. Monday same spot this time nothing at all. Frustrated we decided to go to another spot we had luck at in the past and finally we hear a turkey gobble. Yippie that is great. Finally a single gobbler comes in and my buddy gets to take the shot. Success! The one that was gobbling never showed but kept gobbling and moved away from us. I wanted to keep hunting to see if we could get it to commit but, no such luck. Will need to try for that one another time.

Not a huge bird, 8” beard, 7/8” spurs and maybe 16 pounds. Pretty typical though for Steinhatchee woods.
