We need to unite and make our voices heard. It's easy to sit on the forum and argue and post ideas. I don't care what you send them but it's time to put your forum effort and time to good use. I would urge you to voice your concern, frustration, and ideas for how to fix this issue. I will personally ask that they consider pumping stations to get some of this water moving. They need to know the economic & tourism impact as well as the ripple effect on the local economies due to inaction. I would also urge you to remind them that they are all connected by this water and nobody is immune till we come to some sort of solution.

You can believe this or not...but sitting in their office to speak to them = 1000 e-mails

You also need to know who "pulls their strings"....some are already bought and paid for and are not up for resale. :wink

a worthwile effort would be to somehow compile their environmental voting record....and put effort into voting "bums" out.

Your negative view is doing absolutely nothing to help the situation. If you want to help, send an email, call, show up at their offices. I took the time to compile all the info so people could get the ball rolling Don't come on my post and tell me it's not going to work.

Fish kills have been happening for a long time. The pollution has gotten too great. I remember a time when we used to catch lots of fish in the banana river...

People need to leave, that will fix our problem. No one will leave, in fact they keep coming and the problem intensifies. What do you want the nimwit politicians to do? They aren't any smarter, in fact probably far more ignorant on this topic than many sending the emails.

Our local politicians are mere ants compared to business executives.

Ive made a "contribution" long before you thought of email blasts....and I'm not that old. Emails dont do a thing. This has come from the mouths of the people you are emailing. On other issues constant phone calls and somewhat of a report with people helps....in turn ive been kept in the loop but still no change...keep typing away. I know your heart is being pulled and you want everyone to rally but more people wanted to deport Justin beiber to canada than preserve access to the everglades lol or stop pollution down south a couple years ago. Its all comical, until to begin to realize you'll never understand. I never said don't do anything, you just have to learn where to do something

I listed phone numbers and all these contacts for a reason. I suggested emails because its easy for people to participate. Feel free to make calls, show up....
If we don't do anything at all then we have no room to complain. People leaving isn't an option so no point talking about it. In general we have 2 choices. Be part of the problem, or be part of the solution. If you chose to do nothing you are part of the problem.

So what are you accomplishing by coming on this post and spreading your negativity? It sounds like you are trying to discourage any type of action from others that may read this. People should do whatever makes them feel better.... If you want to send an E-mail...you should.

Some have been in the game a little.....and know the value of e-mail....The number I referenced earlier ( 1 personal sit down = 1000 e-mail)...is not one of my own...It comes from the people you are writing to. They know what each e-mail represents as far as " what will constituant X do.... "
The numbers that drive action are how many people they must face in person....at meetings and in their office. What is the potential "blow back" in an election cycle. Politician is a "career field" ... What hinders...or helps "electability" is EVERYTHING. You can believe this or not.

300 people holding a dead fish standing in front of a congressman or state representatives office....with press filming.....is getting a lot more attention than a full inbox.

I agree duck, and I hope people have the time and will to do those things. Having said that I don't think that sending emails and making calls is going to hurt. They need to hear from us in force. The more calls, emails and people showing up the better. I work in sales and I live by the philosophy that a million drops can make a flood.

Hook, I'm not trying to upset you...and as I said...You have no idea where I fit in this .... and am sure not going to do internet cartwheels on here.

Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department Director Virginia Barker said the governor’s veto of a $700,000 allocation related to the lagoon filtration project likely will scale back the project, which involves using oyster reefs and natural vegetation to help filter nutrients and prevent erosion along the Indian River Lagoon.

The $1.2 million project, which still is in line for $500,000 from other state funding sources, is a collaborative effort that also involves the Brevard Zoo and Florida Institute of Technology. Barker said the county will consult with its partners before deciding how to proceed.

Specific sites for the project have not been determined.

This was one of 60 water-related projects throughout the state that Scott said he vetoed “because they did not provide a clear return for the investment.”

Barker said the veto of the money for the Brevard project was “very unfortunate,” and may have been the result of miscommunication about the benefits of the project.

“There certainly is a clear return” on investment in this project, which is targeted "for a resource of national significance," Barker said. "Most of the lagoon is suffering from intense brown tide. Oysters are capable of filtering and digesting the organism that create the brown tide."

Thank you Hook! I will be writing some emails. I also researched news tip lines/investigative reporters here in Central Florida and started emailing them about this story including links to some of these threads. What we really need is public education because I believe most people probably don't have a clue.

George...You are 100% correct.
Last year when I went to the BMAP meeting in Melbourne...they were showing maps and models that were already 2 years old... I laughed out loud!
The presenters were clueless to the level of decrease in actual seagrass coverage at present.

As far as those "victories"....who of us has actually been out in the river....and feels victorious?
