Going to hawks cay. Need some numbers/advice from local folks!

Hey guys. Going down to hawks cay april the 18th for a few days. Bringing my own boat and wondering if any guys from our region know anything about fishing in the area. Id really like to get some permit and some fish for the cooler to bring home. Any numbers near duck key or info about the general area would be greatly appreciated. Help a brother out guys. Thanks in advance. pm me if you don't wanna give out numbers in public.

Thanks.
Lunkerman.

I have fished that area. I usually stay at Bay View in on Conch Key. I have done very well in the summer offshore. Buy a Top Spot map number N208. it has great info and numbers. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

I have an issue with those reports! At the 9th spot on the list we loaded up on Bermuda chubs. So there are definitely more fish other than grunts there!

Don't think ill be using the grunt numbers...Pretty hard to get numbers from anybody, much less on here. I took jp808 advice and got a top spot map for the area. Much easier that way.

LOL!! You don't need any numbers! Head south and watch for the patch reefs in Hawks Channel. Take lots of chum, anchor upcurrent from the reefs and chum! When the fish show up in the chumline start fishing. You'll need 10-12 lb spinning tackle and maybe two larger outfits (20-30 lb) for the deeper reef. If you have a fishfinder you'll find bigger fish on the outer reef in 60-120 feet of water; anchor upcurrent a good ways and chum! Finding permit might be a problem; you'll probably have to hire a guide. If weather dictates you can also find lots of snapper, mackeral, etc on the bay side, 5-10 miles north; same techniques; find the large white sandy areas and anchor upcurrent and chum.
