at a glance the 550a and the 718 are very, very similar....
most of the difference is what's under the sheet metal than the sheet metal itself...

the rear fender haunches on the 718 are a little more pronounced than the 550...
otherwise the body work is very close. I should have caught it and missed it but you got it right...
Porsche is introducing the designation for the 2017 boxster and cayman as 718....
they will have a flat 4 cylinder, turbocharged motor....
why they dropped the debugged m-96 flat six is beyond me...

I really like the caymans as well and for the same reason...
but even a good used one is pricey....
I think maybe you have it right about the caymans stepping in and getting buyers rather than the 911's...
I'm hoping the value on 6 cylinder boxsters goes up up...
mine is already worth more than I paid for it including shop visits for a clutch and water pump...
