Best R.S. season in 20 years, so the old-timers are telling me. They have been a over the place all winter.

Thanks Tim. I did finally get out yesterday. Moving sux and Im tired of it. I had to order a new stove, took the day off work to be here for the delivery, they brought it to the house, plugged it in, NO POWER. How does THAT happen?. Sooooo, I ran out to the refuge for a couple of hours. Didn't see a whole lot of anything. Had a close call with a gator. Came back home. Ill post the gator story tomorrow. You do need to get out, and bring your camera. Or head south. I wanna see the boat anyhow. I asked you about the GBH in another thread. Did they show up this year? Im assuming the place in LA is not where all the flooding is......... Those poor people. God bless 'em.

Craig I swear if you say that one more time.......... :machinegun Perhaps where you are it was, but here, not so much. I think I saw 50 this year. Maybe they liked it so well where you are they just decided to stay.

Thanks Glenn. Thats very nice of you. I did take "Tammy" (the Tamron) so it's kind of cheating. She is a large girl, (200-500mm) light hungry and insists of very sunny days. Im lucky I got away with the image here, but once in a while she lets me get something I dont deserve. So when the sun starts shining, I take her out of hibernation and let her do some work.

I'll also say that I have not seen many spoonies outside of the fish barrel (St. Auggy Alligator Farm) this year. I typically see them at Egan's Creek but none so far. Maybe they all went extra far South or inland, dunno....

Redsgirl, Chuck you guys live too far north! :rotflmao

My two best days were at Merritt Island, which isn't really that far from you. On one day, I saw 100 and on a second day I saw more than 60.

I live 120 miles south of there. Much closer to home, at my usual haunts, I have seen as many as 30 on many days. I didn't make it to the Everglades this winter.

I hate to move as I did it for most of my early life, so I feel your pain...
    nothing ever goes as planned...

the spoonies in La are along the south central coast. those areas have only seen tidal flooding from the beasterly sou'easters at 20-30kt which we have had here as well...

I assume the tamron you're shooting with is the same as my 200-600 f4-f5.6???
I use quite often, but usually on a tripod due to no IS...

there is one pair of the usual GBH's that have nested here since after Katrina...
there were two other couples but the ospreys moved in and ran them off...
we were hoping the ospreys would nest on the other side of the property and leave the herons alone...
    alas, that didn't happen...

I wish I had that lens. I have the humble 200-500 f5-6.3. No is either. Shes a light stealin heifer; heavy as anything, and slow as molasses. I TOLD you I wanted to change some stuff, remember? :) But that lens is good to me, and as long as its sunny, I can use it.
The Osprey can be bullies, and even brats. But they have made a remarkable comeback, and I am glad to see them.
