I survived leaking boat fuel tank.

I went to the lake to take out my long-neglected boat yesterday. The plan was to clean it and take it for a ride to charge-up the battery. Put the stick in the tank and found no fuel. Poured-in 5 gallons and started washing boat. Started noticing gasoline smell. Bilge pump came on and gas smell got worse. Noticed big oil slick on water.

Oh crap, the built-in gas tank is leaking! Sent buddy up to store to fill portable tank. Drove around lake full speed until first tank ran out. Dumped 100 gallons of water into bilge with bucket, along with bottle of Dawn. Did not have a fire or explosion thankfully.

Did you light the surface of the lake on fire and blast through the flames a few times.

I had the line under the floor start leaking once after we were 20 miles off shore. We could not find where the leak was coming from. We opened all the hatches to the bilge and ran back to shore. I pulled the drain plug, towed it to Crystal River Marine and the guy pinch the line with vice grips to stop the flow of gas. They changed the line and relocated the filter to make it easier to access at the same time. I estimated I lost about 20 gallons along hwy 19 and was **** glad it did not catch fire.

5 gallons is well below the minimum amount required to trigger a report to DEP about a spill.

I am just here for my amusement.
