I read a few articles on excessive fuel consumption with the 5.3s and the consensus was to break them in properly, if not eventually the oil would blow by.

I had an 04 Sierra with 180k on in that would have the pressure fluctuate while driving. I was also adding coolant but could never find the leak. When I changed the oil a thick goo would drip out as the oil drained. Dexcool coolant does not mix with oil so there was no evidence on the dipstick. GM had a problem beginning I believe in 02 with Castec heads developing hairline cracks near the center bolts. After a while the lifters would rattle at startup and I would get a little smoke also. I debated fixing it or getting a new one, ended up spending 300 on heads and 300 on gaskets and drove it for anther 100k.

My 02 rattles on start up once in a while too. It doesn't do it every time maybe once every 3-4 months.

Century, like I posted above, my 07 Silverado was doing the same thing as yours. I just picked it up from the shop. The oil pump was fine. The screen or gasket in the oil pan had to be replaced. He said it's really common with 2007 silverados. He charged me 370.

Thanks for the info. I mentioned this to them and they said they it was the pump. I am always skeptical as I hope they did not do more then was needed. I hope to get my truck back tomorrow
