Home Ten Thousand Islands General Fishing & The Outdoors

2/21/16 Naples

Went out approx 40 miles out of Wiggins this Sunday. Water was very dirty to about 25-30 miles out. Got to the first spot about 9am. We were fishing cut squid, frozen sardines, and live shrimp. Couldn't get anything to bite so moved. One just short 19in red grouper on next spot. drifted a few more times, nothing. Moved. Bout 11:30 by now and the screen looked fantastic. Dropped everything we had and nothing. Decided to free line and finally some good hits, but couldnt get them off the bottom due to mr goliath. caught one bonito on freeline which was fun, but not enough to stay. so we moved again. by this time its about 12:30 and we decided to drift. BAM Nice Mangrove! BOOM! Red Grouper... like so for about an hour. Did bring up a few nice Gags, one being a nice 32in, but had to put them back in the water for when season is open (rename that spot Gag land). All in all came home with 6 keeper mangs between 14-20in and 2 RG's. Basically ran out of bait so had to call it a day. Too busy fishing to get pics. Will try to get pics next time.
