Sheepshead infestation! FPI

Headed out in search of some meat fish today in close. Hit a few channel markers just south of south bridge on beginning of in coming tide and killed the sheeps. Was actually looking for tt but live shrimp just couldn't be ignored. Also decided to take a peek outside since it was so nice. Ran north about a mile to my numbers and found a constant bite every drop of margates, porkfish,grunt, and of course the bell of the ball "sheepshead". Everything was caught on live shrimp, mainly pieces seeing that I started running low on my 3 dozen! Hook of choice was 1/8 ounce hookup jig head in white.

No shortage of sheephead around.Fish some of the nearshore reefs and you can catch some pretty big ones. Hell of alot easier to clean those suckers with a electric knife. If I kept more of them i'd make that investment.

Yea I had pops help me clean em in return for a hefty bag of filets. Didn't use the bubba blade cause I knew it would possibly ruin it or dull it out fast. We used machetes instead!!! lol jk had a few extra knives for the thick skin n bones fish. But that electric knife does sound good. Maybe I coulda saved my back cause today I'm feeling it:banghead:banghead

We kept a few last week during the high winds and cooked them that evening in a very crunchy beer batter. They were excellent. Just mix about 1 cup flour in 1/2 bottle beer. I always use a darker beer like yuengling. Add some salt, pepper, and garlic salt to batter. Heat up a deep pan of peanut oil till almost smoking. have your fish cut up in medallions size pieces and dip in batter then again in dry flour and fry hot until golden brown. A bowl of tartar sauce and you wont ever throw one back again.

Gonna give that recipe to the wife, anything BEER sounds good! :GlassLol We usually dip them in eggs and then into the fish fry with some extra ingredients. Table fare is excellent in my books.

The oil has to be peanut oil and it has to be hot to get that crunchy fish and chips texture on the outside
